PUSHOUT: THE CRIMINALIZATION OF BLACK GIRLS IN SCHOOLS

CAUSE: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Empowering Women & Girls

CATEGORY: Film

PROJECT DIRECTOR: Denise Pines

PUSHOUT: THE CRIMINALIZATION OF BLACK GIRLS IN SCHOOLS is a feature-length documentary film that takes a deep dive into the lives of Black girls and the practices, cultural beliefs, and policies that disrupt one of the most critical factors in girls’ lives - their education. Inspired by the groundbreaking book of the same name by Monique Morris, the documentary underscores the challenges Black girls face and lays out the ways in which adults and policymakers can disrupt and curtail the pervasive over-punishment of Black girls.
